"This decision will shape Milan’s future and has to be judged over the long term,” said mayor Giuseppe Sala at the ceremony for a plaque in memory of Elio Fiorucci in Galleria Passarella. The remarks come on the eve of the city council vote on the sale of San Siro to Inter and Milan.
"I have nothing more to add. I am drained by this affair, but my conscience is clear because I put in all my competence and determination," he said, as relayed by Milan News and ANSA. "I won’t make predictions. It is a matter for each person’s conscience.” Sala also responded to Inter president Giuseppe Marotta’s warning over San Siro issue and leaving the city: "I don’t see it as a threat.”
Sala continued:
"There is a real chance the clubs leave Milan, but the council has to decide in full independence. My conscience is clear. I did everything that was required. Councillors must weigh several points, starting with the contract and how it was prepared, then the city’s future," he concluded.
