At the Festival of Sport in Trento, Zinedine Zidane spoke highly of Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan. In today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Rossoneri coach explained:
"It is true that there were great champions, but at the core of everything was the game these champions knew how to interpret perfectly. How many teams made up of stars did not follow the same path as ours? Many, countless. I remember, from my own experience, that when I went to Real Madrid this was the attack: Beckham, Raul, Ronaldo the Phenomenon, Zidane, and Figo. First reserve: Michael Owen. The left-back was Roberto Carlos. Do you know what we won? Nothing. Why? Simple: there was no game to hold those stars together. Zidane, who has understood football since he was a child, learned the lesson from that Milan and, as a coach, tried to apply it at Real Madrid."
Sacchi continued to talk about Zinedine Zidane:
"However, I confess I have hope. He was a great Juventus player, became a star wearing the Bianconeri jersey, had a master like Marcello Lippi as his coach, learned from him, followed his advice, so why not imagine him on Juventus’ bench? Not immediately, not now, of course, also because I would be disrespectful to Tudor and his work. But I would like someone like Zidane, someone who has always prioritized attacking football, someone who believes in collective play and talent serving the team (just as he was on the pitch) to enter Serie A. Our league could only benefit from his presence. And Zidane on Juventus’ bench would add a touch of romance that modern football sometimes lacks. Think about it, Zizou. And keep watching my Milan’s matches: that is the path to success."
