As has been known for some time, Leon Goretzka is set to leave Bayern Munich. The German midfielder’s contract expires in June, and he will be free to sign with any club. AC Milan have been tracking the 1995-born midfielder for quite a while. However, in the past few hours, during the week leading up to Milan vs Inter, it appears that a genuine transfer derby has ignited between the two San Siro rivals.
According to some recent reports, Inter Milan have also entered the race for Goretzka. The Nerazzurri are looking for an experienced profile to replace several veterans whose contracts are nearing their end: Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, and Matteo Darmian. Midfield is the department where Inter could see the most changes. Beyond Mkhitaryan, Davide Frattesi could also be on his way out.
According to the Turin-based newspaper, Inter are currently in pole position to secure the German midfielder’s services. Milan, meanwhile, have reportedly shifted their focus to André of Corinthians, while Napoli and Juventus trail behind the Nerazzurri. Furthermore, Goretzka’s entourage is the same group that proposed Ademola Lookman to their city rivals last summer, and relations between the parties are said to be excellent.
