Well-known journalist Matteo Moretto, in a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, gave this update on Rafael Leao’s future:
“The future of Leao at Milan remains uncertain. The Portuguese player has a contract until 2028 and there were negotiations underway for an extension in terms of duration rather than salary. But at the moment, Milan, while waiting to officially return to the Champions League, has frozen several situations. We will see whether these situations will be revisited later. What I can say today is that Leao’s name could become a strong candidate for Milan’s outgoing transfers in the summer window. Obviously it will depend on the offer, but if a proposal of around 45–50 million euros plus bonuses were to arrive, the Rossoneri could also consider it.
In the past, Barcelona have thought more than once about signing Leao, who has been offered to the Catalan club on several occasions. The president Laporta likes the forward, but I can tell you that within this Barcelona side, Leao does not generate unanimous approval. Even in recent weeks, he has been offered again to the Spanish club, who are looking to strengthen that area of the pitch and have a long list of names. Rashford is at the top of that list, although no decision has yet been made on whether to make his move permanent. Talks have cooled somewhat, both because of the financial cost of the operation and the player’s performances. Barcelona are therefore also considering alternatives.
Leao is an idea, but he is not at the top of the Blaugrana’s list. We will see if things change. Leao would be willing to move to Barcelona, but at the moment there are no ongoing negotiations between the two clubs, nor any contact with Leao. There is appreciation from Laporta, but it is not unanimous within the Catalan club. We will see what happens, but Leao is certainly a name to keep in mind for Milan’s outgoing transfers this summer.”
