For months now, there has been constant talk about Milan’s future striker. Many names have been mentioned, and in recent hours a new one has emerged as well: Romelu Lukaku, who has been at odds with Napoli for some time and is said to have offered himself to the Rossoneri for next season. The Belgian is eager to relaunch his career after a year heavily affected by a serious injury that kept him out for several months. The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter player saw very little playing time even after returning, which led to the need to find a new club for next year.
Lukaku's Characteristics:
At the moment, his name is not on Milan’s shortlist, as the club is looking elsewhere for its attack. However, as reported this morning by Tuttosport, Lukaku has qualities that could be very useful to Max Allegri, who is searching for a physical centre-forward capable of playing both in a 3-5-2 system (therefore alongside another striker) and in a 4-3-3 as a central reference point. The Belgian possesses these attributes and also knows Italian football very well, so he would not need time to settle in. Added to this is the fact that he would gladly return to Milan, where he also has several personal interests.
There are, however, three major uncertainties that make this deal almost impossible.
First of all, there are serious doubts about his physical condition after a season spent more in the treatment room than on the pitch. Furthermore, his €8 million salary at Napoli is well beyond Milan’s wage structure, meaning the Belgian striker would have to accept a significant pay cut. Finally, there is also a personal issue to resolve: his far-from-ideal relationship with Zlatan Ibrahimović, now a senior advisor at RedBird and one of the key figures involved in Milan’s internal dynamics, writes Milan News.
