With three matchdays left before the end, and following the Rossoneri’s collapse in Reggio Emilia, the next league round carries even greater importance. Roma’s emphatic 4–0 win over Fiorentina has narrowed the gap that existed between the Diavolo and fourth place; therefore, the margin for error has now been significantly reduced. To secure a place in top-tier European competition, six points are now required. Two victories. But speaking today of two consecutive wins, something that hasn’t happened since the March double against Cremonese and Inter, is very difficult, as pointed out via Milan Press.
Milan-Atalanta, the scenario:
All the more so when facing a team like Atalanta. The Rossoneri haven’t managed to overcome them since February 2023, that 2–0 at San Siro decided by Theo Hernández’s rocket (which then deflected off Musso) and Messias. Since then, the record stands at two draws and four defeats. A Milan side, therefore, that will also have to contend with these numbers. And, probably, with the pressure of earlier results, with Roma away at Parma and Juventus travelling to Lecce. Imagining a full haul is not unrealistic.
Milan-Atalanta, a mental aspect:
For this very reason, the match against the Bergamo side takes on even greater significance. In the event of a positive result, the main obstacle would be overcome and fourth place much closer. But if yet another misstep were to occur, it would mean everything comes down to the final two matchdays, bringing with it mental pressure that should not be underestimated. Especially for a group with very few leaders (with the main one, Modrić, unavailable) and which has recently shown itself to be quite fragile. It would therefore be better to remove uncertainty and keep moving along safer paths. For this very reason, taking all three points on Sunday evening becomes vital.
