During his editorial for MilanNews.it, journalist Luca Serafini spoke as follows about Massimiliano Allegri’s team at the moment:
"What happened at Marassi? At last the team showed a surge of pride, of dignity I would say. At last the players respected themselves and their self-respect, as well as that of the fans. Forget about the football itself, in a match that was never really suffered through except partly in the first half-hour and in a couple of other moments: let’s talk about the attitude. It would have been enough to take the field with that level of focus to get points against Udinese, Sassuolo and Atalanta, teams which, after their ‘feats’ against the Rossoneri, crumbled exactly as was widely predictable, and not reach the finish line exhausted and frightened."
"Was a 4-day training retreat enough? Was the owner’s presence enough, given the repeated absence of the directors on away trips? Which emotional strings were touched? I believe that what emerged in Genoa is that the team stands with Allegri. What appeared clear and indisputable is that the sense of duty prevailed over selfish individual interests. The statements made over these months by everyone regarding the coach’s work were not merely routine, not for appearances, not distortions of reality. If a coach is capable of putting back together the shattered pieces of a vase that had broken into a thousand pieces in just a month and a half, it is a clear sign of authority, credibility and charisma. All things that had seemed lost together with the matches. For what was done from August to March, and for these final matchdays, the Champions League for Milan would be more than deserved, and it would not simply be about ‘qualifying’, but about ‘taking part’. About being credible, if not competitive.”
