Fabio Capello, former AC Milan coach, interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport, commented as follows on the concerns of Milan fans:
"It is normal after two years without managing to qualify for the Champions League. And I dare not think how the Rossoneri hearts would react to a third disappointing season in a row. Does it make an impact to see Milan on 1 June without a CEO, a sporting director and a coach? Well, how can you say no? Cardinale has reset everything in an instant and now must move quickly to find replacements. He seems to want to focus on foreign names. Allow me, as an Italian, to raise an eyebrow a little..."
Capello added:
"Rangnick? I do not know him personally, but of course I know his past. At Salzburg and Leipzig he managed to build an important project almost from nothing. Milan, however, is something else. Above all, I struggle to imagine in Italy a model where the coach only coaches, while everything else is done by a supervisor, however competent and clear-minded he may be. But then, would he take care of the transfer market and the building of the new squad while he is at the World Cup with Austria? At this point nothing surprises me anymore.”
