After coming close to signing him six years ago, Ralf Rangnick is now once again just a step away from Milan. While in 2020 the Rossoneri wanted him as head coach, this time they want to entrust him with control of the entire technical area of the club. After days of meetings and analysis, Gerry Cardinale and his right-hand man Massimo Calvelli are now strongly inclined to hand the keys to the sporting project to the German, who in the coming weeks will be involved in the World Cup as Austria’s national team manager.
Rangnick recommends Glasner and Jaissle for the Milan bench:
This was reported this morning by Corriere della Sera, which notes that Rangnick has set out very specific conditions for accepting Milan’s offer. These include complete autonomy with no interference, a staff of around a dozen people, the authority to choose the new head coach and the new sporting director, and oversight of all youth teams.
As for Milan’s future head coach, today is an important day because there will be the first face-to-face meeting between the Rossoneri club and Oliver Glasner, one of the names suggested by Rangnick. It remains to be seen whether this meeting will already prove decisive, especially since another interview is scheduled this week with Matthias Jaissle, the other candidate recommended by the Austrian national team manager. Jaissle is still under contract with Al Ahli, and it would cost €5 million to release him.
Ibrahimovic not backing the Rangnick idea:
There is also another significant issue to resolve. It is no secret that Zlatan Ibrahimović, who is reorganising Milan together with Cardinale and Calvelli, is completely opposed to giving Rangnick a free hand. What will the Swede do? Will he accept the club owner’s decision and step aside? We will find out very soon, because within three days a final decision on the German is expected. Time is moving quickly, and the club needs to act fast, as there is a season to plan and a summer transfer window to prepare for.
