Despite the World Cup being just around the corner, Milan has still not chosen the structure from which it will rebuild for next season. The situation, however, is as follows: 2 out of the 4 profiles the Rossoneri club is reportedly monitoring will be involved in the United States from 13 June onwards. In the meantime, though, Cardinale met yesterday over dinner with Oliver Glasner and his agents, with the aim of presenting the now former Palace manager with a financial and sporting proposal that could convince him to commit to the Milan project.
Milan meets with Glasner:
Let us start with a fundamental premise: after two and a half years and three trophies, one of them international, at Crystal Palace, Oliver Glasner decided to leave the London club because he felt the ownership did not support his ambitions. It is no coincidence that during yesterday's dinner the Austrian took note of everything, while making one particular demand: he wants an ambitious project, but before that he wants to understand the current and future prospects of this ownership group. In any case, yesterday evening's meeting did not produce a breakthrough, with the parties agreeing to meet again soon.
At this point, one could say that Oliver Glasner is Milan's preferred choice for the manager's role. Yet the Rossoneri are reportedly exploring other options so as not to be caught unprepared should the Austrian turn them down. For this reason, Cardinale and Ibrahimović are said to be considering not only Jaissle of Al-Ahli, whom Rangnick has identified as the main alternative to Glasner, but also United States national team coach Mauricio Pochettino.
The former is more difficult to secure given the €12 million per year he earns in Saudi Arabia, while with the latter there already appears to be a preliminary agreement in place for a contract worth up to €5 million net per season, according to a report published this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Amid all this, Milan continues to be in contact with Ralf Rangnick, with whom there have reportedly been further discussions over the last 72 hours. However, appointing him would mean one thing: embracing an entirely new way of working, from the first team down to the youth academy. This is a factor that must be considered, as is the relationship between the German and Zlatan Ibrahimović.
