Twelve days ago, Milan, through its owner Gerry Cardinale, decided to dismiss virtually all of the club's top executives with immediate effect: Massimiliano Allegri was sacked, along with Furlani, Tare and Moncada. On that occasion, given the complete clear-out, the RedBird manager assured that there would be developments within 7–10 days. As mentioned, however, almost two weeks have now passed and there is still complete silence: Cardinale is taking his time in order to make a carefully considered decision. As for the managerial position, in any case, the race has been narrowed down to two names: Oliver Glasner on one side and Mauricio Pochettino on the other.
Gerry Cardinale takes his time:
The RedBird founder understands the importance of this summer for Milan and knows that the decisions made during this period will clearly shape the club's future. For this reason, he wanted to remain in Europe to personally decide on the various figures who will make up the Milan organisation. That is why he has chosen to take a few extra days: it is a delicate decision that deserves careful consideration, as Corriere dello Sport noted this morning. Supporting him in discussions with the various candidates for the Milan bench are, at times, Massimo Calvelli and, at other times, Zlatan Ibrahimović. The final decision, however, will belong solely to him.
Glasner and Pochettino in a race for Milan job
Of the four positions left vacant at Casa Milan, the one Cardinale is most eager to fill first is undoubtedly that of head coach, possibly alongside a sporting director. At present, it is a straight two-horse race for the Milan managerial job.
On one side is Oliver Glasner, the Austrian coach who left Crystal Palace after leading the London club to three trophies over the past two seasons. A highly positive six-hour meeting took place, and further contacts are expected soon. He is currently the leading candidate, but he would like guarantees regarding the transfer budget and the overall direction of the project. He could arrive even without Rangnick.
His rival is Mauricio Pochettino who, unlike the Austrian, will only become available after the World Cup. There has recently been another contact with Milan.
The club is also considering the sporting director role: the leading candidates are Ramon Planes and Johannes Spors.
