According to Claudio Raimondi on SportMediaset on Italia Uno, Milan are said to have made contact in the last few hours with Ruben Amorim, a coach currently without a club after being dismissed last January by Manchester United.
The Portuguese coach’s candidacy comes as something of a surprise, as he had already been approached by the Rossoneri in the summer of 2024 as a possible successor to Stefano Pioli, but the deal fell through because Sporting Lisbon required an €11 million release clause to free him, as pointed out via Milan News.
Amorim still appears to be a backup option for Milan in case the move for Oliver Glasner collapses, as Glasner remains the leading candidate for the Milan bench. It remains to be seen whether the Austrian, as a condition for accepting the move to the Rossoneri, has asked for the presence of Ralf Rangnick at the club as technical director.
Rangnick ultimatum: the German is waiting for Milan’s response by Sunday
The German is still waiting for Milan’s call after sending Gerry Cardinale all his conditions for agreeing to leave the Austria national team job and take charge of Milan’s technical department. Next Wednesday the Austria team will begin their World Cup campaign, and for this reason Rangnick has reportedly given Milan an ultimatum: he wants Cardinale’s response to his demands by Sunday, otherwise he could accept the extension until 2028 that the Austrian football federation has long offered him.
