Ralf Rangnick’s refusal, which arrived yesterday from the United States where the German is preparing to lead Austria at the World Cup, marks yet another worrying turning point in Milan’s June. The Austria national team coach was Gerry Cardinale’s first choice for the role of technical director, and now the search must start again from scratch. There are several names on the shortlist, but at the moment none appears to stand out from the others. The same applies to the managerial position: some candidates are being followed more closely than others, but the situation remains at a standstill, as relayed via Milannews.it.
Milan, Krosche and Ozek as alternatives
There are mainly two names in whom Milan have recently shown interest for the role of technical or sporting director. La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms the name of Markus Krosche, currently at Eintracht Frankfurt, who previously worked at RB Leipzig and was a collaborator of Rangnick. He has produced numerous signings and significant transfer profits over the years. According to reports from Matteo Moretto, this is a very active and promising option.
The other director with whom the ownership group has already had a couple of contacts is another German: Devin Ozek, who started at Bayer Leverkusen and has recently left Fenerbahçe, where things could have gone better. Discussions with Ramon Planes, who recently became available after leaving Al-Ittihad, date back a couple of weeks.
Milan, the managerial position is at a standstill
The situation is not much different regarding the head coach position, which is currently completely stalled. Here too, three names are circulating around Milan headquarters.
The strongest candidate is Oliver Glasner. He is believed to have already given his approval, but he is waiting for a call from the club. However, with other offers potentially on the table, there is a risk that he could eventually lose patience, just as Rangnick did.
The other two candidates are Ruben Amorim and Matthias Jaissle, with whom recent meetings reportedly took place in London in the presence of Gerry Cardinale. Amorim is coming off a disappointing spell with Manchester United. Jaissle, meanwhile, would need to be released from his contract with Al Ahli, although he would reportedly be willing to take a significant pay cut in order to become Milan’s head coach.
