At this time last year, people were talking about how Massimiliano Allegri could transform Milan with two talents of the calibre of Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic in the same attack. Today, one year later, the fortunes of the Portuguese and American players are very different; in fact, they are moving in opposite directions. For Leão, there is the scent of a departure, whereas for Pulisic there is the backing of Cardinale and Amorim (although that may not be enough to keep him).

Milan aims to extend Pulisic's contract:
Ever since he removed all of the old protagonists of Milan's 2025/2026 squad, Gerry Cardinale has been clear about one thing: Milan will rebuild around Christian Pulisic. This view has also been shared with the club's new head coach, Ruben Amorim. In other words, for both the manager and the ownership, Pulisic is not for sale. Tuttosport reiterated this today, noting that there are significant suitors, particularly the lucrative offer from New York City, but also stressing that Cardinale's position is non-negotiable.
What will need to be negotiated, however, is Pulisic's contract renewal. Keeping him is all well and good, but Milan must take into account that his current deal expires in 2027 (or in 2028 if the option is triggered), and the club will need to secure him on a long-term contract as soon as possible. From a tactical standpoint, Amorim sees him as a perfect piece for his system.
