The news that all AC Milan fans have been waiting for over the past few weeks could arrive very soon. According to reports currently circulating, Luka Modrić has decided to continue his journey in the Milan shirt for another year. It remains to be seen whether the announcement could even come today during the presentation press conference of the club's new head coach, Ruben Amorim.
Modric decides to stay at AC Milan:
This morning, Tuttosport reports that, after the Club World Cup concluded, the Croatian star spent a few days reflecting with his family and ultimately chose to play for the Rossoneri during the 2026–27 season as well. Modrić is currently a free agent because his contract with Milan expired on 30 June, but the club's offer of a one-year extension remains fully on the table.
Cardinale and Amorim pushed for Modric to stay:
It is no secret that, in recent weeks, both Gerry Cardinale and Amorim personally called the midfielder to persuade him to stay at Milan for at least one more season. The player consistently maintained that he would only think about his future after the Club World Cup, and that is exactly what he has done.
Compared with last season, when the Rossoneri were not involved in European competitions, Milan will have a much busier fixture schedule this year. Naturally, Modrić will not be able to play every match. However, having a leader of his calibre remain in the squad will undoubtedly be invaluable for Amorim and the entire dressing room, even when he is not on the pitch.
