Portuguese players, or players who have already been coached by Amorim. This is the guiding theme of AC Milan’s transfer strategy following the appointment of the former Manchester United manager as head coach, as the club looks to revive its fortunes under the Rossoneri banner. This does not mean that players such as Mario Gila, the Spanish defender signed for €30 million including bonuses, cannot still arrive, but the trend is clear.
The latest name to emerge in this regard was revealed by Matteo Moretto: Moroccan left-sided player Noussair Mazraoui, a starter for both the Morocco national team (eliminated recently by France in the World Cup quarter-finals) and Manchester United.
"There are negotiations ongoing, but there have been no direct contacts between the clubs. What I can say through these channels is that Mazraoui is certainly a player appreciated by Amorim," said Moretto. "He is 28 years old and has a contract running until 2028, with an option. We have to see whether, during what is still a very long transfer window, he can become a name that Milan will seriously pursue."
"At the moment, I am talking about the coach’s appreciation for him. Amorim likes Mazraoui’s qualities. He had a good World Cup with Morocco and was only recently eliminated, precisely against France. We will see whether there will be more to discuss later on,” Moretto said on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian-language YouTube channel."
