After missing out on Konstantinos Karetsas, who has now officially joined Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan must identify a new target to fill the left-footed attacking midfielder role on the right flank requested by Ruben Amorim.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, one of the names on Milan's shortlist is Mathias Soulé. The Argentine already knows Serie A well, having previously played for Juventus, Frosinone and Roma.
Milan transfer news: Soulé's price
Roma do not consider Soulé untouchable, particularly following Gian Piero Gasperini's approval after Paulo Dybala's contract renewal and the signing of Castro. The Giallorossi have set an asking price of €40 million.
Two Saudi Pro League clubs matched that valuation earlier this summer, but Soulé turned down both offers, making it clear he has no interest in moving to Saudi Arabia. He is, however, open to other destinations, and Milan could represent an attractive option.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, "Amorim highly rates Soulé, and his qualities in both attacking and defensive phases are considered well suited to the style of football the coach wants to implement."
Soulé therefore fits Milan's recruitment criteria, especially if the club can negotiate a lower transfer fee.
Another alternative, available at a significantly lower cost but only on a dry loan deal, is Franco Mastantuono, who is expected to leave Real Madrid.
As was the case with Karetsas, however, any move for a new attacking midfielder depends on Rafael Leão being sold first. The Portuguese forward, who arrived in Perth yesterday under unusual circumstances, remains a target for Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe and has recently been offered to several clubs in the Premier League and La Liga.
