They were important additions, there is no denying that, but what comes next? The Rossoneri must now break this transfer market standstill, and they can only do so by completing player sales.
Ever since last season ended, there has been widespread discussion about the long list of players expected to leave Milan. As reported by Corriere dello Sport, the squad needs to be streamlined by offloading players whose contracts are nearing expiry or those who are no longer part of Ruben Amorim's plans.
Among those expected to depart is Fikayo Tomori, who is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs while Juventus, now led in the transfer market by Massara, also remain keen. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is another player with his bags packed; like his fellow Englishman, he is approaching the end of his contract and could make a return to the Premier League. Pervis Estupiñán is also being linked with a move back to England, with Aston Villa continuing to monitor his situation.
Then there are Samuele Ricci, Santiago Gimenez and, of course, Rafael Leão. The Portuguese star's future could ultimately shape the rest of Milan's transfer window, especially if Gerry Cardinale succeeds in securing the fee the club are demanding.
Amorim wants reinforcements
Once Milan have cleared out several surplus players and generated a healthy transfer income, they will be able to return to the market. The squad still needs to be completed, with just three weeks remaining before the start of the Serie A season.
The position Milan are focusing on most is an agile attacking midfielder capable of operating between the lines. After missing out on Alajbegovic and Karetsas, the club still have several alternatives in mind, including Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri, Roma's Matías Soulé, or even a romantic return for Brahim Díaz from Real Madrid, although such a move appears more realistic later in August, as relayed via Milannews.it.
It will be crucial for Milan to back Amorim and provide him with the reinforcements he has specifically requested.
