It is no secret that AC Milan's incoming transfer business is currently at a standstill because of the need to offload players. Before making any new signings, the Rossoneri must first sell some of their surplus squad members. One of those expected to leave was Pervis Estupiñán, who appeared to be on the verge of an exit. Instead, he travelled to Australia with the rest of the squad. The reason is straightforward: Ruben Amorim has, for now, halted his departure because he wants to assess him in training first.
Milan: Amorim puts Estupiñán transfer on hold
Reporting on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto explained the situation surrounding Estupiñán:
"The agreement between Milan and Aston Villa was practically done. Very little was missing, and the gap between the clubs was minimal. Everything came to a halt after an internal meeting at Milan, where Amorim decided to slow down Estupiñán's departure because he wanted to see and evaluate him in training first. We'll have to see whether Amorim maintains this position and whether Aston Villa will be willing to wait."
No new wide signings without Estupiñán's departure
Estupiñán's first season at Milan was largely disappointing, with his winning goal in the second league derby against Inter standing out as the only real highlight. The Ecuadorian also lost his place at left wing-back to Davide Bartesaghi, making his departure this summer seem almost inevitable, writes Milan News.
An agreement with Aston Villa (where manager Unai Emery, who previously coached Estupiñán at Villarreal, is keen to reunite with him) was virtually in place before Amorim stepped in to stop the move.
The situation is expected to become much clearer after Milan's pre-season tour of Australia and Indonesia. If the Portuguese coach does not change his mind, the Rossoneri are not expected to sign any additional wide players this summer.
