“The main objective is to win a trophy and give something back to Franco. It would be extraordinary to win something and dedicate it to him. He was a great leader, perhaps one of the biggest symbols in this club’s history, but also a very humble person. It is a huge loss for Milan and all Milan fans.
“I met him when I was playing for Real Madrid and we simply exchanged greetings. He was an example. Even though he did not play in my position, he was a player I admired greatly. He did not talk much, but he was extremely humble. The way he returned to play the 1994 World Cup final against Brazil after that injury perfectly describes him, as does the strength he showed to take that penalty in the final…”
Modrić’s desire to stay:
“My dream has always been to win with Milan. I came here for that, not just to enjoy myself. My objective is to bring a trophy to Milan, whether it is the Scudetto or another achievement. I am here for this, and it has always been my dream.
“I never had any doubts about renewing my contract. I could have done it in December, but I preferred to wait and see how my body responded, to understand whether I still had that hunger inside me and that passion for football.”
Modric also said:
“When I felt all the love from the fans and the desire from Milan to keep me, I had no doubts. As I have already said, I was already sure from the beginning that I wanted to stay here for another season.”
“Many players from last season have remained, and that is positive. Then new reinforcements have arrived and I believe they will bring a lot of quality to our team. Everyone will be important for the good of the club.”
Modric on his relationship with Ruben Amorim:
“I have spoken with the coach several times during the summer. I have good feelings, I have always had them, and I believe we can work well together.”
On Rafael Leão:
“Rafa is mature enough to understand what is best for him. We love him and we know how important he can be for us. When he is fit, he is one of the best players in the world.
“Maybe last season was not fortunate for him, also because of injuries, but I hope he can stay here and help us have a great season.”
