Despite making no signings, Milan’s final day of the transfer window produced a dramatic and unexpected ending. The protagonists of the story were Fikayo Tomori and Youssouf Fofana, both of whom had been excluded from Ruben Amorim’s plans since returning from the tour of Australia and Asia.
Both were expected to leave, but Milan risked keeping hold of both: that is what happened with the Englishman, who was even reinstated in the squad, while a last-minute solution was found for the Frenchman, with Sevilla taking him to Andalusia on a free loan.
In fact, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported this morning on the final hours of the transfer window at Milan. The Italian newspaper wrote:
"Fulham option falls through: Tomori reinstated. Fofana heads to Sevilla."
The English centre-back had even travelled to London to await any developments with his agent, but instead received a call from Amorim informing him that he had been welcomed back into the squad. The paper continued: "Amorim calls the defender, who returns to the squad. The midfielder joins the Spanish side on loan."
