Journalist Luca Bianchin had this to say to La Gazzetta dello Sport while commenting on Ruben Amorim’s team selection:
"Amorim has a problem when it comes to choosing his starting XI. At Tuesday’s press conference, he explained why he is trying out unfamiliar starters such as Hutchinson and Terracciano, both of whom started but were taken off at half-time: ‘It’s not possible to go through a season with 11 or 14 players,’ he said. ‘To reach the final, we have to manage the rotations well.’ The reality is that Amorim wants to give every player minutes over the next month, ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. Will he be able to afford that? Is it a sensible choice? Hmm. The point is that this way, you don’t build a settled team and nobody really gains confidence. Everyone has a fairly clear idea of who Milan’s regular starters are (the three defenders, Modric, Musah, Rabiot, Pulisic, and perhaps Chukwueze), but they never all play together."
"One number, in particular, really stands out. Milan have not scored in the first half in any of their four league matches or their Europa League game. That is particularly punishing for those who arrive at the stadium on time. For Amorim, the time has simply come to choose the right XI. So, who will play on Sunday evening at home against Lecce? Let’s try to predict it. In defence, Gila should return to the starting line-up, alongside Pavlovic and one of De Winter or Gabbia. In midfield, it is logical to expect Modric, but alongside whom? Musah again? On the wings, Diego Moreira will certainly play, and perhaps Chukwueze. In attack, Pulisic and Rabiot with Gonçalo Ramos. Ah, Gonçalo plays all the time, practically never gets a rest… and he isn’t used to it. Sooner or later, to avoid taking excessive risks, he will have to sit out a game too. Sooner rather than later."
