After suffering their first defeat of the season against Benfica, Milan want to put their disappointing Europa League opener behind them immediately, and there is only one thing to do: beat Lecce at San Siro tomorrow evening.
Ruben Amorim, who has come under criticism for the heavy rotation he made against the Portuguese side, has realised that now is the time to give his team some consistency, and for that reason he will field his key players against the Lecce side.
'La Gazzetta dello Sport' reported this morning that one of the players returning to the starting XI will primarily be Christian Pulisic. The American, who was one of the few Milan players to come out of the Benfica match with credit, will make his first start of the season. Another important change from the Europa League game will be the inclusion of Mario Gila from the start. Against the Portuguese side, he began the match on the bench to make room for Filippo Terracciano. Although the Spaniard only arrived this summer and is therefore not a veteran of the dressing room, he is certainly an indispensable technical leader in Milan's defence.
Another key return to the starting XI will be Adrien Rabiot. However, it remains to be seen where he will be deployed, as Amorim has used him both in midfield and as an attacking midfielder so far. His position will also depend on the other selection decisions made by the Rossoneri coach. Even if he is deployed in midfield, his partner is not necessarily going to be Luka Modric: the Croatian star's inclusion in the starting XI against Lecce is once again in doubt.
