If one Milan player had to be singled out for his decisive contributions at the start of the season, the answer would undoubtedly be Adrien Rabiot. Several players have been performing well, but the French midfielder has been the most consistent overall. Amorim has selected him for every match, and he has always made a difference in one way or another, as his numbers demonstrate. That is precisely why Milan are already working on a contract renewal before the end of the year.
The first piece of the puzzle has been clear for some time: Milan want to renew Adrien Rabiot's contract, and head coach Ruben Amorim wants the same. Now, the club must complete the picture and, as Corriere dello Sport reports this morning, Milan want to finalise an agreement before the end of 2026.
The Frenchman is under contract until 2028, but his leadership and ability to make the difference in midfield deserve to be rewarded sooner rather than later. An early renewal would also prevent the club from leaving things too late and risking losing him on a free transfer. Talks with Veronique, his mother and agent, have already begun, with the club actively pushing to get the deal done. After Pavlovic, Milan want to secure the future of another indispensable member of the squad before turning their attention to a third player, Christian Pulisic. The aim is to extend Rabiot's contract until 2030, with an improved salary.
Rabiot is crucial:
In its report this morning on Adrien Rabiot's importance to Milan, Corriere dello Sport describes him as a 'totem'. Indeed, his physical presence in midfield certainly brings that image to mind.
His start to the season under Ruben Amorim has been very positive, even better than last season under his mentor, Max Allegri. The Frenchman quickly established contact with Amorim over the phone during the Club World Cup this summer, and the two were immediately on the same wavelength.
As well as featuring in every match, either as a starter or a substitute, Rabiot has registered an impressive tally of three goals and three assists across Serie A and the Europa League. In the most recent match against Salzburg, he was involved in all three of Cisse's goals, initiating the move for the first two before serving up a perfect pass for his young team-mate to finish the third.
