AC Milan impressed and convinced in Genoa against Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa, especially in the second half. The Rossoneri were able to take their chances and punish Genoa at key moments, first with Nkunku’s penalty and then Athekame’s excellent left-footed strike. Two decisive actions at the most difficult stage of the match.

They were no coincidence. The Frenchman is coming off a very strong spell of form and confidence, while the Swiss player has often stood out for his dedication and work rate. A positive first season for him, whereas Nkunku’s situation is far more complex.

In the closing stages there was the usual struggle typical of a team that has often picked up points through performances of this kind. Goals, defending, and sacrifice. On Sunday evening at San Siro there will be one final decisive test to qualify for the Champions League, which would bring far more than just reassurance in the transfer market. And it is precisely the transfer market that will be discussed, with Santiago Gimenez's future increasingly uncertain and seemingly further away from Milan.

The Mexican is still without a goal in this Serie A season (he has scored only once this year, in the Coppa Italia against Lecce) and has not found the net in Italy’s top division for over a year: it was 9 May 2025 when the Rossoneri striker scored a brace against Bologna. Since then, a long drought has followed, marked by too many difficult and low points. An ankle operation and a relationship that likely never fully developed with Massimiliano Allegri could push the Mexican away from Italy and Milan. Sunday evening against Cagliari at San Siro could be his last appearance there.
