In a lengthy interview with today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, former AC Milan manager Sergio Conceição also discussed his time in charge of the Rossoneri. Here are his comments.
Conceição’s comments
“Unfortunately, every manager needs a certain type of structure behind them at club level. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to command credibility in the eyes of the players. Let’s just say that the conditions at Milan at the time were not ideal. I have no regrets about those six months. Winning the Supercoppa Italiana and reaching the Coppa Italia final after beating Roma and Inter was fantastic. In fact, it still hurts that we lost that final to Bologna.
“During my time there, Cardinale never came to Milanello. He even sent me a message congratulating me after the Supercoppa, but I didn’t reply because I didn’t even have his number, and I only read it some time later.
“Amorim? I know him well. We had some heated battles in Portugal, with me managing Porto and him in charge of Sporting. I wish him all the best in Milan.
“Would I return to coaching in Italy? Why not? I’d like to. There had already been other opportunities in the past, even before Milan.”
