Fabio Capello, former AC Milan coach, made some statements in the studios of 'Sky Sport' at the end of the Spain-England final of Euro 2024, particularly addressing the topic of young players and using Milan as an example.
The former coach pointed out how the Rossoneri talents have grown significantly, especially because they played without an audience during the Covid times. This allowed the coach at the time, Stefano Pioli, to guide them, and they knew exactly where to go.
Capello also emphasised how young players need playing time to grow. Here are his words on the matter:
"Players who have quality emerge, and therefore you have to use them, have the desire to take risks. When you see someone in training who is good, who trains with the first team, you have to gradually put him in... if you're winning 2-0, let him play for half an hour. Why have some young Milan players grown so much? Because they played without an audience, with Covid. The coach guided them, like horses... go here, go there. I have never looked at the identity card before making a lineup."
