On Sunday, AC Milan will host Atalanta BC at San Siro, and for this match Massimiliano Allegri is also considering some changes to the line-up compared to the last game lost against US Sassuolo Calcio. One of those changes is expected to come in attack, where Santiago Giménez should start from the first minute after several months. The last time this happened was on 28 October, when he started against Atalanta in Bergamo.
After that day, however, the Portuguese striker’s ordeal began, as he was sidelined for a long period due to an ankle injury. Initially, conservative treatment was attempted, but it did not work, so in mid-December he underwent surgery to permanently solve the problem. He returned to action in the closing stages of the match against Torino FC on 21 March, followed by a few more brief appearances, though without ever truly convincing. On Sunday, Giménez will have a big opportunity from the start to prove that he can still be useful to Milan in the final part of the season, and perhaps next season as well.
Today’s edition of Tuttosport points out that the Mexican forward is still without a goal in this Serie A campaign (his only goal this season came in the Coppa Italia against US Lecce), and that he has not scored in the Italian top flight for a year. His last goals came on 9 May 2025, when the Rossoneri striker scored a brace against Bologna FC 1909. Since then, however, a long goal drought has begun, one that Santi hopes to finally end on Sunday evening against Atalanta.
