At the moment, the only things on AC Milan’s mind are the final two league matches against Genoa and Cagliari, and qualification for next season’s Champions League. Therefore, any major upheavals or changes within the club’s hierarchy will only be decided after the end of the season. Everyone at Milan is under scrutiny, including sporting director Igli Tare, who arrived a year ago after a lengthy selection process.
Could Tare leave AC Milan in the summer?
This was reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which explained that the Albanian executive brought the leadership of Luka Modrić to the Rossoneri, but the club’s biggest investments did not pay off (Ardon Jashari and Christopher Nkunku). As a result, the former S.S. Lazio director is in a precarious position and could leave the Rossoneri after just one season.
During last year’s selection process, Milan also carefully considered the profile of Tony D’Amico, the sporting director of Atalanta BC, whose name could return to prominence at Casa Milan if Tare departs. The executive from Abruzzo, as Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi also hinted, is on his way out (he will be replaced by Cristiano Giuntoli):
“I have an extraordinary relationship with him. I know very well what he has done over these years in Bergamo. I thank him, and I realise that, just as happens with players, he too can be courted. There are still two matches left; perhaps our relationship could also come to an end, but the mutual respect will last forever.”
Many capital gains:
D’Amico comes from two excellent experiences, first at Hellas Verona FC and then at Atalanta, where he successfully combined sporting success with financial sustainability. At Verona, at least three major profitable transfer deals stand out: Marash Kumbulla, Amir Rrahmani, and Sofyan Amrabat. In Bergamo, he raised the level of recruitment by bringing in players such as Éderson, Charles De Ketelaere (from AC Milan), Gianluca Scamacca, Isak Hien, Mateo Retegui, and Sead Kolašinac.
Once again, there was no shortage of major capital gains, such as Retegui, who was bought for €20 million and resold to Saudi Arabia for €65 million. It is no secret that this is a quality highly appreciated at Casa Milan and therefore, if a position opens up in the club’s management, the Rossoneri managers will be ready to act.
