With last week's mass dismissal, Milan's players currently find themselves without any reference figures within the club. This is the source of the widespread discontent: some, like Leão, have made their feelings public, while others prefer to keep a low profile, at least for now. During his appearance on Sky Sport 24, Luca Marchetti took stock of the situation.
"Leao has already come out into the open. From Maignan, we are hearing expressions of frustration, and there too the bitter disappointment is palpable. Modrić is also a matter of age: he is 40 years old, and there had been discussions about whether he would stay at Milan for another year. Perhaps he could have done so regardless of Champions League qualification; perhaps he will not do so anyway. This goes somewhat beyond the broader Milan discussion, but he is nevertheless someone who this year has been emblematic, one of Milan's most representative players, certainly the one who has contributed the most on the pitch, especially considering the player's moral stature as well as his quality."
"It is also true that there is an age-related issue that must be addressed and that we cannot ignore. As for the Rabiot matter, I believe it is far too early to discuss it at this stage. The contract is there, there is certainly mutual respect with Allegri, and Napoli also have a very strong midfield. It is only June; Allegri and Rabiot have an excellent relationship, and technically Allegri has not even signed with Napoli yet. There will be time to talk about Rabiot and Napoli. This feeling that there is a sort of 'break ranks' atmosphere within the Rossoneri camp honestly still lingers with us."
