Today's edition of the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport carries the following headline this morning:
"Milan, Glasner is there. The coach is getting closer and closer. Austria wants to keep Rangnick."

After two weeks of assessments and talks, Milan appears to have decided to focus on Oliver Glasner for the managerial position. He is the clear favourite to replace the dismissed Max Allegri. In recent hours, speaking to two Austrian newspapers, the former Crystal Palace manager commented on reports linking him with the Rossoneri:
"It is very pleasing that, since I announced the end of my contract with Crystal Palace, the media have linked me with almost every club. I have never commented on these rumours and I do not want to do so now. When the time comes, I will announce it. And for me to finally be ready for a new club, everything has to be perfect. You have to have a good feeling about it; if that feeling is not there, nothing happens."
Before announcing him, however, Gerry Cardinale would like to appoint a new technical director. The target is Ralf Rangnick, but Austria are applying strong pressure to keep him on as national team manager until 2028.
Yesterday, Josef Pröll, president of the Austrian Football Association, spoke about the German's future:
"We want to keep him, and he knows the terms. We are waiting for his decision in the coming days or weeks. He and I both know how we feel about each other because we communicate very openly. I am very optimistic that he will choose Austria. It is clear that financially we cannot compete with a major international club. Nevertheless, we are convinced that we have put together an attractive overall package with the national team."
