Álvaro Morata, former AC Milan striker who is currently playing for Como, spoke about his experience with the Rossoneri during an interview on the podcast 'El camino de Mario' with Mario Suárez:
"I showed up to my presentation with Milan under the effects of medication, without really knowing what I was doing. Obviously, it's a huge club."
Morata on his Atletico Madrid experience:
"How do I think I'm viewed at Atlético? I don't know. It hurts me," he explained, "to have left just when I think they had finally understood and appreciated me. Honestly, I think I left because of a sense of guilt. Atlético is always among the best clubs in the world. I didn't know that Julián would later arrive, but I would have stayed anyway.
"Before, it was difficult even to walk down the street. There were Atlético fans who didn't welcome me warmly, and Real Madrid fans who seemed bothered by the fact that I supported Atlético. They can't understand that this is a job. I played for Real Madrid because the opportunity presented itself, and I'm very grateful for it."
"I don't feel hatred or resentment towards anyone. Carvajal is my friend; I still support them and cheer for them. But I think that in Spain it's not normal to see a player move from Real Madrid to Atlético, whereas in Italy it's more common to see someone play for both Milan and Inter."
"It's football, people should understand that. I always use the example of companies: people change jobs for money, personal reasons, or because they're unhappy where they are. We, on the other hand, are considered traitors."
"The positive thing is that when I meet Atlético fans, they greet me with affection, and that means a great deal to me. I like explaining to them what Atlético represents. When they ask me questions, I always say that what they see is not normal. The normal thing is to fight your whole life to win something."
"I've been very fortunate, but I've also worked incredibly hard. That's why I'd like my children to support Atlético: because I think life is the thing most similar to Atlético that exists."
"When I see Koke, Cholo, and all these people who have spent years chasing a Champions League title, and then I see Koke back at pre-season training starting all over again... I couldn't do it. It would be extremely difficult for me."
