In the last few hours, Milan have made significant progress with Ruben Amorim, who now appears close to becoming the club's new head coach.
Amorim close to joining AC Milan:
An agreement has been reached with the Portuguese coach's representatives on the basis of a two-year contract with an option for a third year.
In the coming hours, the final and decisive approval from Gerry Cardinale is expected. This is the last hurdle before a definitive agreement between the parties and the beginning of a new era for the Rossoneri, as relayed via Milan Press.
His tactical ideas
Throughout his managerial career, Amorim has generally set up his teams using two very similar formations: 3-4-3 and 3-4-2-1. When in possession, the team often shifts into something close to a 3-2-5 shape in order to commit more players to attack and gain an advantage in winning second balls.
The back three play a crucial role in the build-up phase. The two central midfielders stay in front of the defence, while the wing-backs push up alongside the attacking line and the wingers move into more central positions.
Amorim's story
The Portuguese coach retired from playing at the age of 31 due to physical problems and, in a very short time, rose through the ranks of Portuguese football as a manager.
In fact, Amorim's first managerial experience came with Casa Pia in the third division, whom he guided to promotion. In the summer of 2019, Braga entrusted him with their B team in the third tier, but after eight wins in eleven matches he was promoted to the first team. In January 2020, he won the League Cup, and in March Sporting Lisbon paid €10 million to secure his services.
In his first full season, he won the league title with the best defensive record in the competition and the league's top scorer in his squad. In November 2024, he moved to Manchester United, but his experience in England ended disappointingly in January 2026. Now he could restart his career at Milan, a club that is in need of a clear and well-defined project.
