AC Milan continue their preparations for Wednesday's Derby della Madonnina against Inter, which will be played at Optus Stadium in Perth. One player who will not be available to Ruben Amorim for the first-ever Milan derby on Australian soil is Mario Gila, who picked up an injury during the Rossoneri's first pre-season friendly against Celtic in Glasgow on 25 July. Fortunately, medical tests ruled out any muscle tear, confirming only a minor issue with his right rectus femoris muscle.
Milan injury update: Gila improving, but will miss the derby
The Spanish defender, who joined Milan permanently from Lazio this summer in a deal worth around €30 million, still travelled to Australia with the rest of the squad. However, he has only been training individually since arriving, including another personalised session today.
Gila's condition is improving, but Milan have no intention of taking any risks by rushing him back for the derby. As he has yet to resume full team training, the club's medical staff are determined to give him all the time he needs to recover fully and avoid a more serious muscular injury.
Milan injury update: Pulisic and Gimenez continuing treatment
Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez, meanwhile, did not travel to Australia as they continue recovering from injuries sustained during the World Cup. The American is dealing with a microfracture of his right fibula accompanied by bone oedema, while the Mexican striker is recovering from an ankle sprain, as relayed via Milan News.
Both forwards are currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at Milanello. Once the squad returns to Italy, Milan's medical staff will reassess their conditions to determine how their recoveries are progressing and whether either player has a chance of being available for the club's first competitive match of the season against Torino on 23 August.
