For the financials, it is necessary to wait until the end of the season; Roma and Milan are still in the running for their respective objectives.
Maybe they are not the primary ones set at the beginning of the season, but there are still crucial points up for grabs for both the Champions League race and the Europa League race. One player who has made progress in his work is certainly Alexis Saelemaekers, who is having an important season in the Capital, probably the best of his career, with 6 goals and 4 assists in 19 matches after the injury that made him miss the first part of the season. The Belgian would like to remain in Giallorosso beyond the expiration of his current contract, which is set for July, but his future is linked to that of Tammy Abraham, who also arrived at Milan on a dry loan.

Roma thought they would reach this point in the season with Saelemaekers' registration already in their hands, but the January contacts with Milan were not exactly smooth. On one hand, the Roman sporting director Florent Ghisolfi wanted to accelerate the acquisition of the Belgian in exchange for Abraham plus a financial adjustment, while his colleague at Casa Milan and fellow countryman Geoffrey Moncada responded negatively. At that point in the season, the gap between a starting Saelemaekers who was a key player for Roma and an Abraham who was frustrated with his time on the bench and limited game time was too wide. The Giallorossi board is convinced that in the end, the desire to maintain good relations between the clubs and the famous handshake from last summer will prevail.
New terms?
Several clubs, especially from the Premier League, have shown interest in Saelemaekers, and this aspect is making Roma uneasy. This is why new contacts with Milan are expected in the coming days to try to turn a verbal agreement into a concrete deal and, possibly, even finalize it.
Ghisolfi is aware that the timing won't be short because, at the moment, the Rossoneri club is entirely a work in progress focused on choosing the new sporting director. But attention is needed on Roma’s new proposal: to match Abraham’s 25 million euros valuation for Saelemaekers, closing the deal with a direct swap or renewing the loan for another season.
These financial terms could also suit Milan, but they will first need to clarify their position on Tammy, who is finishing the season strongly. And the English striker himself will need to decide whether to accept or not the Rossoneri’s offer by cutting his net salary from 6 million euros per season.
