Amorim aims to keep Rabiot and Maignan, but task is not easy

Ruben Amorim has only recently become Milan's new head coach and has already begun working in preparation for next season. While waiting for the transfer market to be unlocked once the new sporting director is appointed, the Portuguese coach is carefully assessing the current squad: some players are destined to leave, while there are others on whom the new Milan manager wants to build his team, particularly Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot. There are also other top players to secure, but for the former Sporting and Manchester United coach, it would be crucial to retain two leaders such as the French duo.

However, convincing them to stay at Milan will not be an easy task. As far as the goalkeeper is concerned, it is true that the captain's armband and the contract extension until 2031, signed a few months ago, might suggest that his stay is almost guaranteed. Nevertheless, Maignan has never hidden his desire to play for a competitive Milan side. The considerable uncertainty surrounding the club on Via Aldo Rossi, which is still without a management structure, is a significant concern for him. Added to this are the departures of Max Allegri and his staff, particularly goalkeeping coach Claudio Filippi, with whom he developed a very close relationship. These departures were a major blow for "Magic Mike".

The same applies to Rabiot.

Many are convinced that he will join the ex Juventus coach at Napoli, where he would also have the opportunity to play in the Champions League, a competition in which Milan will not participate. Amorim has assured him that he is a key part of his plans and that he wants to hand him the keys to Milan's midfield. For now, however, both he and Maignan are focused solely on the World Cup with France. Once it is over, they will be able to think about their futures and tell the Portuguese coach whether he can count on them next season as well.
