Although he has not yet arrived in Milan on a permanent basis, Ruben Amorim is already working on building his Milan. On 13 July he will lead his first training session at Milanello and will use the opportunity to assess all those players who will be available and not on holiday or at the Club World Cup, and whose futures remain uncertain. He wants to see them all in person to understand exactly how to proceed in the transfer market. Meanwhile, the coach has identified his first target: one of his favourites, Francisco Trincão.
Milan's first target: Trincao
According to Corriere dello Sport, Ruben Amorim's first major transfer target for Milan is Portuguese attacking midfielder and forward Francisco Trincão, born in 1999, who plays for Sporting Clube de Portugal and is currently in North America with the Portugal national team. The Portuguese player, who previously played for Barcelona, was one of the key figures in Amorim's outstanding Sporting side. The new Milan coach would like to recreate that same chemistry at Milanello.
He would be an ideal fit in one of the two attacking midfield roles behind the striker in Amorim's trademark 3-4-2-1 formation. He would complement Christian Pulisic and Christopher Nkunku well, both of whom are expected to remain at the club.
That is the encouraging part of the story; the less pleasant aspect concerns the transfer fee. To prise Trincão away from Sporting, Milan would need to pay at least €40 million. At least, that is the price set by the Portuguese club. His most recent season was excellent, and his market value has risen accordingly.
At the same time, Amorim is also considering several other attacking options. There is Gonçalo Ramos, should he ask to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and Nicolas Jackson, who has returned to Chelsea after Bayern Munich decided not to make his move permanent.
In midfield, Milan are also pursuing another former Amorim lieutenant and a familiar face in Serie A: Morten Hjulmand.
