La Gazzetta dello Sport, after handing out the players ratings, commented on the referee's performance in the AC Milan - Liverpool Champions League fixture.
The newspaper write that the Dutch referee who oversaw the game, Danny Makkelie, failed last night. He was given a rating of 5 for his efforts.
The referee, in fact, overlooks too much on some interventions that were punishable with a yellow card: one is missing from Divock Origi, Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori and Franck Kessie.
The most highlighted episode of the match was the contact between Kessié and Liverpool's full-back Konstantinos Tsimikas in the penalty box. The Greek defender puts his right arm on Kessie's back and pushes him, so the penalty kick would not have been a gift.
