Serie B side Sampdoria are currently looking for defensive improvements and news claim that they will soon secure the services of Cristiano Piccini, the 31-year-old Italian centre-back, formerly of Atalanta and Valencia.
The player's free transfer, however, may not be the only addition to the defence. Despite financial difficulties and almost zero liquidity, the 'Blucerchiati' are reportedly exploring some cost-effective options. One leads to Milan and a player who has had limited playing time so far, Marco Pellegrino.
The idea is to send Pellegrino out on loan, and several Serie B teams, including Modena, Como, and Ternana, have expressed interest. Pellegrino, though, has reportedly rejected all these destinations so far. The possibility of a loan to the Spanish Second Division has also been considered, with Racing Santander being a potential destination, as per Calciomercato.com.
In the final hours of the transfer market, surprises often occur, and according to Il Secolo XIX, Sampdoria might make a new attempt to convince the player. The Sampdoria management's idea is to replicate the operation they did with Sassuolo for Alvarez: Sampdoria could propose a loan move, with the entire salary burden on the Milan club.
