After the Lega Calcio Serie A, both the Players’ Association and the Coaches’ Association have also decided to back Giovanni Malagò in the race for the presidency of the FIGC. The former head of CONI is not yet formally a candidate and will make his decision in the coming days, but his team is already working on a programme and potential names. As reported this morning by 'Repubblica', for Club Italia (the body overseeing all national teams) Malagò wants to persuade Paolo Maldini. The alternative is another former AC Milan player, namely Demetrio Albertini.
As for the role of head coach, the choice will be collective: Massimiliano Allegri is currently a more viable option than Antonio Conte, but Stefano Pioli is also in the running. Whoever is appointed will have to "settle" for a salary not exceeding €2–3 million. Malagò also wants to include a woman in his project, but for now the name remains top secret.
