After a difficult first part of the season and a January departure that seemed almost certain, Christopher Nkunku scored five goals between late December and mid-February, raising hopes for the rest of the season. However, the Frenchman then returned to delivering disappointing performances. The latest came on Sunday away at Sassuolo, when Max Allegri started him, but the former Chelsea player, much like all of his teammates, failed to make an impact.
As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, we are talking about Milan’s most expensive signing of last summer’s transfer window, having paid €37.5 million plus bonuses to Chelsea. After just one season, it already seems to be the end of Nkunku’s adventure in the Rossoneri shirt: as also anticipated yesterday by Milannews.it, his agent Pini Zahavi, who has reportedly been in Milan these days, is already working to bring offers of at least €40 million for his client to the club’s headquarters on Via Aldo Rossi.
Milan would then reinvest that money in the transfer market to sign another striker who could be more useful and better suited to Max Allegri’s style of play. Among Zahavi’s clients is, for example, Robert Lewandowski, the 37-year-old striker who is set to leave Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of the season. The Polish forward is often linked with Milan as well, but because of his age and salary demands, it remains a rather complicated option.
